Crawley store to close
5:50pm Sunday 7th August 2011
Jobs will be axed at a flagship store.
Administrators have failed to find a buyer for TJ Hughes in Crawley.
The store in The Broadway is one of 22 shops due to close next week after the troubled retailer went into administration in June.
61 workers at the shop were told yesterday that the store will close on August 14 with a closing down sale starting immediately.
Earlier this week administrators Ernst and Young announced the sale of the store in Terminus Road, Eastbourne to Lewis’s Home Retail, safeguarding 54 jobs.
Jeremy Taylor, chief executive at the Gatwick Diamond business area, said the development was a major blow for Crawley.
Tom Jack, joint administrator, said: “It is regrettable that we have had to schedule these store closures and we are extremely grateful to the employees and management at all the group’s stores, at the head office and at warehouses for their loyalty and support during what has been a very difficult and uncertain time.”
